Masculine Facial Features: Which Ones Actually Read — and Why More Isn't Better
Masculine facial features shape first impressions, but more masculinity is not automatically more attractive.

You are not vain for getting stuck there; the internet has turned a fast human impression into an engineering exam.
Here is the sentence the charts leave out: masculinity is a dial, not a ladder—and the dial has a peak partway up. A first impression is a fast perceptual read, not a score. The useful question is which signals are being read, by whom, and whether they help or overshoot.

What are masculine facial features?
Masculine facial features commonly include a heavier, lower brow ridge; wider, more angular jaws; a longer lower face; a more prominent chin; thinner lips; a larger nose; and less facial fat over the cheeks. These are population-average patterns of sexual dimorphism, not requirements for an attractive man.

Perrett’s result does not mean feminine-looking male faces are always preferred. It means the simple rule “masculinity rises, attractiveness rises” is not supported as a general law.

Why does the “ideal” keep changing between cultures?
The ideal changes because preferences are shaped by environments as well as facial structure: Scott et al. (2014) found that preferences for sexually dimorphic faces varied across societies and were strongest in the most urbanised, market-integrated populations.
