Interpupillary Distance (IPD)
The distance between your pupils, read against face width. Forums debate ideal eye spacing endlessly; it is fixed bone that observers barely notice.
What Interpupillary Distance (IPD) means
Interpupillary distance is the gap between the centres of your two pupils, in millimetres. In looksmaxxing it is usually discussed as a ratio against the width of the face: eyes that sit closer together read as a narrower-set face, eyes further apart as wide-set. Adult human IPD clusters in a fairly tight range, and it is set by the eye sockets, which are bone. It interacts with overall face width, so the same absolute IPD looks wide-set on a narrow face and average on a broad one.
What it actually does to the first impression
Eye spacing is one of those things observers feel rather than measure. Eyes set quite wide can read as open and slightly youthful; eyes set close can read as intense or, past a point, slightly off. But the window where IPD actively helps or hurts a first impression is narrow, and within the normal range almost nobody registers it consciously. The eye region drives the 1.2-second read mostly through tilt, openness and the brow, not through the millimetre gap between pupils. Plenty of well-liked faces have unremarkable spacing.
Reality check: the forums vs the data
This is the clearest example of looksmaxxing fixating on a number you cannot change and observers do not weight. IPD is fixed orbital bone; there is no exercise, posture or non-extreme surgery that moves it, and the surgery that touches the orbits exists for trauma and serious deformity, not aesthetics. Glasses and brow grooming can shift the apparent spacing slightly, and that is the whole toolkit. If your eye spacing is within the normal range, which it almost certainly is, this is a measurement to read once and then forget. The agonising is pure self-inflicted.
