Hunter Eyes

Hunter eyes are deep-set, narrow eyes with little upper eyelid exposure, set under a strong brow. Community shorthand for an intense, masculine gaze.

What Hunter Eyes means

Hunter eyes is community shorthand for a specific eye-area package: deep-set eyes, a horizontally long and vertically narrow opening, minimal visible upper eyelid, straight or low-set brows, and a neutral-to-positive canthal tilt. The hooded look. None of this is a medical category — you will not find 'hunter eyes' in any anatomy text. It was coined as the opposite pole of what forums call prey eyes. The brow ridge does most of the work here: deep-set eyes under a strong supraorbital ridge create the shadow that actually produces the look, more than the eye shape itself does.

What it actually does to the first impression

In a fast glance, this eye area reads as intensity. Less visible eyelid plus brow shadow narrows the apparent gaze, which observers tend to code as focused, calm, sometimes slightly threatening. Todorov et al. (2008) mapped how snap face judgments compress onto dominance and trustworthiness axes; hunter-type eyes push the dominance read upward. That cuts both ways. The same configuration can register as cold or unapproachable in contexts where warmth wins — a date, an interview, a first meeting with strangers. Intensity is not a free upgrade.

Reality check: the forums vs the data

The forum framing — hunter eyes or bust — collapses fast against real examples. Conventionally attractive men span the entire range, and casting directors pay for open, expressive eyes constantly. You also cannot train your way into this look: orbital bone shape is set after puberty, and the claim that mewing deepens eye sockets has no evidence behind it. Dropping body fat slightly reduces upper-lid puffiness, and that is roughly the whole actionable list. Everything else sold under this label is either surgery or cope.
