PSL Looksmax App Review: Is It Worth It? An Honest Look
IQ Labs' PSL looksmax app is free to download, but results need a subscription. Real prices, the weekly-plan trap, privacy gaps, refunds and a free option.

You searched PSL app and got cricket. This review covers PSL - Looksmax & Ascend, the looksmaxxing app from IQ Labs LLC, not the Pakistan Super League app.
You've likely seen the flow: a slick intro about how much looks matter, a selfie, a scan, then a price sheet where your result should be.
Short answer: free to download, not free to use; the App Store listing itself says analysis results require a subscription. It's a real app with normal Apple and Google billing, not a scam. Worth it only on a yearly plan, if you want a daily routine. Skip weekly, and don't treat the PSL number as a verdict on you.
Facts as of October 1, 2026. We haven't bought the report; we make the free test below.
Key numbers
- 4.7 stars from about 11,600 App Store ratings; 4.7 from 53.8K Google Play reviews, with 500K+ downloads.
- $4.99/week, $9.99/month, $19.99–$34.99/year, $49.99 lifetime, plus one-time scans at $4.99 or $9.99 (App Store).
- $259.48: a year of weekly billing at list price, 7–13 times any yearly tier.
- 4 of 16: numbered sections of the privacy policy that contained any text when we loaded it.
- 100 ms: enough for attractiveness judgments that track unhurried ones (Willis & Todorov, 2006).
What is the PSL looksmax app?
An AI face-scan and routine app, launched on iOS in November 2025. It rates symmetry, jawline, skin and harmony, then builds a plan (jaw and maxilla exercises, skincare, posture, diet), plus a community and AI dating photos.
The listing promises top-tier attractiveness in 90 days and repeats the claim that 80% of women match with the top 20% of men, a figure usually traced to a 2015 Medium post built on 27 women's self-reported Tinder likes.
The name comes from looksmaxxing forums' harsh 1–8 PSL scale (Wikipedia). Even the acronym is contested: forum lore says PUAHate, Sluthate, Lookism; Wikipedia says Perceived Sexual Levels; the app says Physical S*xual Looks. A scale that can't agree on its own name has no standards body behind its numbers.
Is the PSL app free? Where does the paywall hit?
No. The listing itself says analysis results require a subscription, and extra scans may cost more. The paywall lands after the scan, before any result.
Per the listing and user reviews:
- Onboarding: a polished pitch on how much looks shape daily life.
- Questions and a selfie scan, feeding a plan tailored to face, age and goals.
- Price sheet, no result. A June 2026 one-star reviewer said it wouldn't dismiss, so they closed the app.
Paying doesn't unlock unlimited scans: the headline feature is a weekly scan, and an August 2026 two-star reviewer said daily scans cost extra.
Is it worth the money? Run the math first
Only on a yearly or lifetime plan, and only if you'll work the routine for months. At list price, four weeks of weekly billing ($19.96) match the cheapest full year ($19.99).
| Plan | List price | Cost of 12 months |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly | $4.99 | $259.48 |
| Monthly | $9.99 | $119.88 |
| Yearly | $19.99–$34.99 | $19.99–$34.99 |
| Lifetime | $49.99 once | $49.99 |
- 10 weeks of weekly ($49.90) ≈ lifetime access.
- Four yearly prices appear in the list; check yours.
Weekly billing mirrors the weekly scan, so each renewal buys another measurement. The listing says half of users see results in week one, but habits run slower. In one study, new daily habits took 18 to 254 days to become near-automatic (Lally et al., 2010).
Credit where due: 90 days is a sensible window for a routine, and about 85% of App Store ratings are five stars. A November 2025 reviewer called it worth every cent for anyone serious about ascending.
Caveat: if the plan finally gets you sleeping, lifting and wearing sunscreen, $19.99 a year is cheap. That buys a routine, not a verdict on your face.

Is the PSL score accurate, and accurate at what?
It may echo consensus taste, but the developer publishes no evidence it predicts how people respond to you.
Concession: raters do agree on who is attractive, within and across cultures, per a review pooling eleven meta-analyses (Langlois et al., 2000), so a model can learn it. As one reviewer put it, "It does give you a pretty accurate scan, however, I would not recommend" (App Store, Aug. 19, 2026).
The reframe: rank vs. read.
- A rank is positional. On a 1–8 ladder anchored to male models, not top-tier is almost everyone's default, so the ruler helps manufacture the problem being sold.
- A read is a threshold: do you come across as well-kept, healthy, approachable? Brief glimpses of behavior predict real interpersonal outcomes (Ambady & Rosenthal, 1992), and most men can clear that bar.
We think the rank is this category's most dangerous idea. I'm a 4, re-checked weekly, keeps you staring at the rung instead of fixing what people notice.
| What the PSL scan measures | What a stranger actually reads first |
|---|---|
| One still photo of your face | A snap judgment; 100 ms is enough |
| Symmetry, jawline and harmony ratios | Expression, grooming and posture, in motion |
| Your position on a 1–8 ladder | Whether you clear a well-kept, approachable bar |
| A rank, re-checked weekly | A read that moves with sleep, haircut and fit |
Caveat: close-up selfies inflate perceived nose size (Ward et al., 2018), so any photo tool, ours included, partly measures the camera.
Is the PSL looksmax app safe?
For billing, yes: it's a listed app paid through Apple or Google. For data, the paperwork is thin. For your jaw, be careful.
- Labels: both stores list photos as collected. iOS marks data not linked to you, with no tracking; Google Play's Data safety declares no third-party sharing. Both are self-reported.
- Policy: sections 3–14 of 16, including data retention and minors, sat in its contents list with no text on October 1, 2026. It names your face photo as collected data; deletion runs through in-app account settings.
- Terms: content you post or upload comes with a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to IQ Labs; disputes go to arbitration; purchases are called non-refundable (terms).
- Teens: rated 13+ on iOS, Everyone on Google Play. A July 2026 one-star reviewer said the community is mostly 10–15-year-olds posting faces for rates.
- Jaw work: a July 2026 Google Play reviewer said the plan assigned eight minute-long maxilla-pulling sets that the app's own AI coach advised against. Evidence is thin: the American Association of Orthodontists says no current research shows mewing (tongue-posture training) benefits the jawline (AAO). See is mewing safe.
- Mod APKs: skip them. Modified apps from outside Google Play can carry malware (Play Protect), and your face goes to unvetted code.
How do you cancel PSL and get a refund?
Cancel in your Apple or Google account; deleting the app doesn't stop billing. Apple decides iPhone refunds, whatever the app's terms say; on Android, Google takes requests for 48 hours, then it's the developer's call.
- iPhone, cancel: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → PSL → Cancel Subscription (Apple).
- iPhone, refund: reportaproblem.apple.com → I'd like to → Request a refund. Apple says expect an update in 24–48 hours (Apple).
- Android, cancel: Google Play → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Cancel subscription. Uninstalling won't cancel it (Google).
- Android, refund: within 48 hours, use Report a problem in your order history; after that, contact the developer (Google).

What should you use instead?
Depends on whether you want a number or a read.
- Zero paywall: our shortlist of the best free looksmaxxing apps with no paywall.
- The missing axis: PSL ranks a photo; nothing in it measures the read. Our free test does: it reads your first impression on a 70–155 perception axis, and the result plus the face, physique and outfit breakdown are free with a free account, no card. Deeper modules are $1.50 each, one-time, no subscription. It isn't a validated clinical instrument either; no photo test is.
One sincere note: a September 2026 reviewer said the onboarding ties your jobs, relationships and happiness to your looks. Looks matter; a tier isn't your worth. If scans leave you feeling worse, especially as a teen whose face is still changing, step out of the loop for a while.
The bottom line
PSL is legitimate software with standard billing and a routine some people value. Pay yearly if you'll use it; never weekly. But it sells a rank for one photo, in a forum's harshest vocabulary, behind unfinished privacy paperwork.
Your face doesn't have a tier. It has an effect on people, formed in a fraction of a second from expression and grooming as much as bone, and it moves. See your read free before paying anyone $4.99 a week.

Frequently asked questions
Is the PSL looksmax app free?
Free to download, not free to use. The App Store listing says analysis results require a subscription: $4.99 a week, $9.99 a month, $19.99 to $34.99 a year, or $49.99 for lifetime access. One-time face scans are listed at $4.99 or $9.99. If you want a result with no paywall in front of it, start with our list of the best free looksmaxxing apps with no paywall.
Is the PSL looksmax app safe?
Billing is safe in the ordinary sense: it is a listed app paid through Apple or Google. The weak spot is the paperwork. On October 1, 2026, its privacy policy contained text in only 4 of the 16 sections it lists, and its terms grant the company a perpetual license to content you post or upload. Our face rating app privacy policy audit shows how rivals compare.
Is the PSL app's face rating accurate?
It can echo consensus taste, because people broadly agree on who is attractive. But no public data shows the number predicts how real people respond to you. It estimates geometry from one photo, and light and camera distance change photos. Our breakdown of whether PSL ratings are real science goes deeper.
How do I cancel PSL and get a refund?
Cancel in your account; deleting the app does not stop billing. On iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, PSL, Cancel Subscription, then request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android: Google Play, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, Cancel subscription. Google handles refund requests for 48 hours, then sends you to the developer. Our cancel-and-refund guide has the full steps.
What does Reddit say about the PSL looksmax app?
We do not summarize Reddit threads we cannot verify, so we lean on store reviews. The pattern is consistent: praise for the onboarding and the daily routine; complaints about the paywall before results, the once-a-week scan and very young users in the community.
